TENSES WITH EXAMPLES



Hi! friends my name is Sumit singh and, first of all you will be 

reading the main tenses and then the revision notes. So,

let's start.

grammar tenses-

2.PRESENT 

Simple tense- To express habits or general truth.                                                                       To indicate a future event on a designated dates as part of a plane or arrangement. 

With 'mental action' verbs: like, love, want, need, believe, etc.
    
     Sub+v1+ Ob.

     Eg.- I eat pizza everyday.

Continuous tense- To indicate action going on at the time of speaking.

To indicate temporary action which may not be happening at the time of speaking with the habitual action verb. especially to indicate a stubborn habit.
          
              Sub+(is/am/are)+(v1 +ing+Ob)

             Eg.- I am eating pizza right now.


Perfect tense- To indicate past action which is not defined by a time of occurence.

To indicate an action which started in the past and has continued until now. 

Sub+(have/has)+v3+ob

Eg.- I have eaten all of the pizza. 


Perfect continuous-  to indicate an action which started at some point in the past and may or may not be completed.   

Sub+(have/has)been+(v1+ing)+ob+since/for.

Eg.-I have been eating pizza for two hours.


2. PAST

Simple tense- to indicate a past habit-or an action already completed. 

can be used with or without adverbs of time.
                
                Sub+v2+Ob.

                Eg.- I ate pizza yesterday.


Continous tense- To indicate uncompleted action of the past.(with or without time reference).

To indicate the persistent habits of the past (with always, continuously, forever, etc.)               

    Sub+was/were+(v1+ing)+Ob.                            

     Eg.- I was eating pizza when you arrived.


Perfect- To signalize a completed action of the past that happened before another  took occurrence place. 

   Sub+had+v3+Ob.                                                

   Eg.- I had eaten all of the pizza before you arrive.



Perfect Continuous- To indicate an action in the past that began before a certain point in the past and continued up until that time.

         Sub+had been+(v1+ing)+Ob+ Since/for.

Eg.-I had been eating pizza for two hours when you arrived.



3.FUTURE

Simple tense.- to indicate an action, condition, or circumstance which has not taken place yet. 


Sub+will/shall+v1+ob.

Eg.- I shall eat pizza tomorrow.


Continuous-  To indicate what will be going in at some time in the future.


To indicate planned future events.


Sub+will be/shall be+(v1+ing)+Ob.
Eg.- he will be eating pizza. 


Perfect- To indicate an action that will complete before another event takes place. 

Sub+will have/shall have+v3+ob.

Eg.-I shall have eaten all of the pizza by the you arrive.


Perfect Continuous- to indicate an action that will have happened for some time and will not be complete yet at a certain point in the future. 

Sub+will/shall have been+(v1+ing)+ob+ since/for.

Eg.-I shall have been eating pizza for two hours when you arrive.

Simple-  v2

Continuous- was/were +V +ing.

Perfect- Had + v3

Perfect Continuous- Had been + ing + since +/for.

2.PRESENT

Simple- v1+ s/es + with singular subject only.

Continuous- is/am/are + ing

Perfect- has/have + v3

Perfect Continuous- has/have + been + v + ing + since/for.

3. FUTURE

Simple- will/shall+v1

Continuous- will be/shall be + v + ing.

Perfect- will have/shall have + v3

Perfect continuous- will have/shall have+been+v+ing+since/for.
